The short version
Yes, Gong has an official MCP server, and it is read-only. It gives Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot three tools that answer questions from your Gong calls and emails: ask_account, ask_deal and generate_brief. A Gong tech admin turns it on, it is available on any Gong plan for users with the right seat, and it never writes to Gong or your CRM. It returns synthesized answers, not transcripts. We make Cleanlist AI, which runs a different kind of MCP server (contact data), so read this as a vendor's review.
Facts checked October 15, 2026. Every Gong fact below comes from Gong's help center page on its MCP server, read on October 15, 2026. We did not connect a Gong workspace for this review.
Does Gong have an MCP server?
Yes. Gong's help center describes an official MCP server that "exposes Gong insights to external AI systems." An AI client sends a request, and Gong answers with insights generated from the calls and emails it has recorded for an account, a deal or a contact. Gong lists Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Studio, ChatGPT and Claude as supported clients.
What Gong exposes is its own analysis, not its raw data. That is the main thing to understand before you plan a workflow around it.
What can the Gong MCP server do?
Gong's server has three tools:
| Tool | What it does | Input |
|---|---|---|
ask_account | Answers a natural-language question about one account | An account and a question |
ask_deal | Answers a natural-language question about one CRM deal, such as blockers or agreed next steps | A deal and a question |
generate_brief | Returns a structured, multi-category summary of an account, deal or contact | An account, deal or contact; no question |
Each tool takes an includeSources parameter. It defaults to false; when true, the answer comes back with links to the calls and emails it used, and Gong turns it on automatically when the prompt asks for sources. generate_brief needs a CRM contact ID for contacts, while accounts and deals can be looked up by name.
In practice that covers the questions a rep or manager asks before a call: what did this account object to last quarter, what did we agree as next steps on this deal, give me a brief on this champion.
How do you connect Gong to Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot?
A Gong tech admin enables the MCP server first; only tech admins can set it up. Team members then add the Gong connector in their AI client. Gong offers two registration types and two access modes, and you can combine them however you need:
- Automatic registration: no credentials to copy. The AI client connects from its marketplace or registers itself with Gong, and each user signs in through Gong's normal sign-in. Personal or company AI accounts can both connect.
- Manual registration: a private integration that is not listed in any marketplace. Gong generates a client ID and secret for the admin to install in the AI client, and marketplace connections and personal accounts are blocked.
- Personal access: each person connects with their own Gong login and sees only what Gong already lets them see.
- Shared access: one authorized token gives every connected user the same organization-wide view, whoever they are.
Most teams will want automatic registration with personal access, so Gong's existing permissions carry over. Shared access is the mode to review with security before you turn it on, because it removes per-user visibility rules.
Is the Gong MCP server free?
Gong says the MCP server is available on any Gong plan. Access depends on the seat each user holds, and setup is limited to tech admins. Gong does not list a separate price or a usage cap for MCP on the page we read.
What are the limits of Gong's MCP server?
- Read-only. It does not create, update or delete anything in Gong or your CRM.
- No raw data. Transcripts, email bodies and activity lists are not returned; you get Gong's synthesized answer, plus source links if you ask.
- One record per question.
ask_accountandask_dealanswer about a single account or deal and are not meant for broad summaries across a book of business. - A time window. Answers draw on calls and emails within a defined time range.
- Private calls are excluded from every result.
- No published rate limit on the page we read.
The read-only design is deliberate and useful: an AI client cannot change your pipeline through Gong. It also means Gong's server tells you about accounts you already work, but cannot find new people or fill in missing contact details.
Who is the Gong MCP server good for?
It fits teams that already record calls in Gong and want reps to ask "what happened on this deal" from the AI tool they already use, without opening Gong. Managers preparing pipeline reviews and reps preparing for a call get the most from ask_deal and generate_brief.
It fits less well if you want an AI agent to act: update CRM fields, enroll contacts, or pull transcripts into another system. For those jobs you pair it with a CRM server, such as Salesforce's or HubSpot's, in the same client.
Where does Cleanlist AI's MCP server fit next to Gong?
Cleanlist AI publishes this page, so treat this section as a disclosed vendor entry. Gong's server knows what was said on your calls; it does not know who else at the account you should be talking to. Cleanlist AI's MCP server covers that side: people and company search across 1B+ profiles, and verified work emails and phone numbers from a waterfall of 25+ data providers. Search is free, a verified email costs 1 credit and a phone number 10, and nothing is charged when a lookup finds nothing. Before any paid enrichment, Claude shows a cost quote and waits for your yes.
The two work in the same Claude chat: ask Gong which stakeholders came up on a stalled deal, then ask Cleanlist AI to find and verify the economic buyer at that company. Cleanlist AI's MCP server is included from the Starter plan at $49 per seat a month and in the 14-day Pro trial. Setup is on the MCP product page, and the wider field is in our list of MCP servers for sales and GTM.
Frequently asked questions
Does Gong's MCP server work with Claude?
Yes. Gong lists Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Studio as supported clients. A Gong tech admin enables the server, then each user adds the Gong connector in Claude and signs in.
Can the Gong MCP server update my CRM?
No. Gong's MCP server is read-only. It answers questions about accounts, deals and contacts from Gong's call and email data and never writes to Gong or the CRM.
Can I get call transcripts through Gong's MCP server?
No. Gong returns synthesized answers and, if you ask, links to the calls and emails it used. Transcripts and message bodies are not returned.
Who can set up the Gong MCP server?
Only Gong tech admins can enable it. After that, users connect according to the registration type and access mode the admin chose.
What is the difference between personal and shared access?
Personal access uses each person's own Gong permissions, so people see only what they can already see in Gong. Shared access uses one organization-wide token, so every connected user sees the same data.
