The short version
HubSpot's prospecting agent is a Breeze agent inside HubSpot that finds companies showing buying signals, picks up to three contacts at each, and drafts or sends personalized email from your reps' inboxes. It costs $1 for each lead it recommends outreach for: 100 HubSpot Credits at $0.01 a credit. HubSpot's setup guide lists it on Starter, Professional and Enterprise editions. Sales Hub Professional includes 3,000 credits a month, which covers 30 leads if nothing else spends them. New contacts come from HubSpot's own sourcing or from one connected provider: Apollo, ZoomInfo, Surfe or Seamless.AI. Cleanlist AI publishes this review and sells agents that work inside HubSpot, disclosed in its own box below. Cleanlist AI's plans are on the pricing page.
Facts checked October 3, 2026. Every HubSpot fact below comes from HubSpot's knowledge base (the prospecting agent article was updated September 16, 2026), its product and pricing pages, and the HubSpot Credits section of its Product & Services Catalog, each read on October 3, 2026. This review did not run the agent in a live account, so it carries no reply-rate or meeting numbers.
What is HubSpot's prospecting agent?
HubSpot's prospecting agent is one of HubSpot's Breeze AI agents, built into Sales Hub. HubSpot describes three jobs:
- Find good-fit companies. It monitors the company segments you choose for "intent signals": news such as a funding round or a product launch, and evidence that a company is researching topics you care about.
- Find the people. At each company it suggests up to three contacts who match the personas you pick.
- Write the outreach. It drafts personalized email from your CRM data and those signals, then sends it for review or on its own.
Every part of this runs on "plays," HubSpot's word for a saved set of instructions. A team can run several plays, one per market or product.
What it does, step by step
A play has five tabs. This is the setup flow HubSpot documents.
- Audience. Turn on "Source contacts for me" if you want the agent to suggest people. Pick the company segments to monitor, the signals to watch, the target personas and a daily cap on new contact suggestions.
- Selling context. Paste your website URL and the agent drafts what you sell, your value proposition and the pain points you solve. Pick the products the play should sell.
- Outreach. Choose Sequence (personalized, multi-channel outreach through an AI sequence you can edit step by step) or Adaptive (emails that adapt to each prospect's actions and signals, with a minimum gap between emails and a maximum per enrollment).
- Guardrails. Send from the contact owner's connected inbox or from one user. Pick a preset tone or your brand voice, the calls to action (a meeting link, a HubSpot document or a URL) and a send window on business days.
- Automation. Choose "Review before sending" or "Send automatically."
Contacts enter a play four ways: from the agent's recommended companies, by automated rules (a page view, a form submission, days since last engagement, or joining a list), by manual enrollment, or through Breeze Assistant and workflows. A daily digest at 9 AM lists drafts waiting for review. The Performance tab reports enrollments, delivered, opened, clicked and replied emails, and booked meetings.
Two setup requirements catch teams out. Four AI settings must be on: generative AI access, CRM data, customer conversation data and files data. And only Super Admins or users with the "Access prospecting agent" permission can set it up.
How much does a prospecting agent cost in HubSpot?
HubSpot prices the agent per lead. Its product page says: "You pay $1 for each lead prospecting agent recommends outreach for." In HubSpot's Credits rate sheet that is 100 credits per lead, and extra credits cost $0.010 each.
Each paid HubSpot edition includes a monthly credit allowance. Credits reset every month and do not roll over, and other agents and AI features draw on the same pool.
| Edition | Included HubSpot Credits a month | Leads covered at 100 credits each, if nothing else uses credits | Sales Hub list price, read October 3, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 500 | 5 | See HubSpot's pricing page |
| Professional | 3,000 | 30 | From $90 a seat a month, plus a required $1,500 onboarding fee |
| Enterprise | 5,000 | 50 | From $150 a seat a month, plus a required $3,500 onboarding fee |
Data Hub and the bundled Customer Platform include more: 500, 5,000 and 10,000 credits for Starter, Professional and Enterprise.
A worked example. A Professional team that wants the agent to work 200 new leads a month needs 20,000 credits. The plan includes 3,000, so the other 17,000 cost $170 a month, either pay-as-you-go at $0.010 a credit or as 17 capacity packs of 1,000 credits at $10 each.
The free start. HubSpot offers 14 days of free access to first-time users. The clock starts when you publish your first play, the agent spends no credits during it, and it turns itself off at the end. HubSpot's eligibility rules: a Professional or Enterprise subscription with included credits and an assigned seat, no earlier free access, and an opt-in to HubSpot's "Prospecting Agent Gets Smarter: Buying Signals and Contact Sourcing" beta.
Which editions. HubSpot's setup article (updated September 16, 2026) and its product page list Starter, Professional and Enterprise. HubSpot's June 2026 prospecting guide still says Sales Hub Professional or Enterprise, so check your own account before you plan on Starter. Credit-spending agent actions do not run in sandbox accounts.
Where the contact data comes from
The agent works from three sources.
- Your CRM. It reads your records and up to a year of engagement on each contact: form submissions, page views, calls, meetings, notes and email opens.
- HubSpot's signals and sourcing. HubSpot's product page says the agent can "source and enrich contacts with phone numbers, emails, and job titles," all inside HubSpot. The pages read for this review do not name the database behind that built-in sourcing.
- One connected provider. Under Integrations you can connect Apollo, Surfe, ZoomInfo or Seamless.AI.AI to find net-new contacts. Only one source can be connected at a time, and each one signs in with your own account on that service, so its subscription and credits are separate from HubSpot's.
What this means in practice: the quality of the contacts the agent finds depends on which source you connect. HubSpot does not publish an email verification rate or a phone number hit rate for the agent on the pages read.
HubSpot sequences: limits and seat requirements
The agent's Sequence method sends through HubSpot sequences, and sequences have their own rules.
- Editions. Sales Hub or Service Hub, Professional or Enterprise.
- Seats. Every sender needs an assigned Sales or Service seat, including senders chosen in a workflow.
- Inbox. Sequence emails go out one-to-one through each user's connected work email. A shared team inbox cannot send them.
- Volume. 5,000 sequences per account and up to 1,000 email sends per user per day, per HubSpot's catalog.
- LinkedIn. LinkedIn steps need a Sales Navigator subscription.
- Stops. Contacts can unenroll automatically when they reply or book a meeting.
Who it fits, and who it does not
It fits a HubSpot team on Professional or Enterprise with real inbound and engagement history: website visits, form fills and email opens give the agent the signals it watches for. It also fits teams that want outreach to stay inside HubSpot, with each draft showing in the sender's sales workspace and approved from one review queue.
It fits less well when:
- Most of your pipeline is cold outbound to companies with no engagement. HubSpot says the agent personalizes from CRM data and fresh signals, and a cold account has little of either.
- You want volume. At $1 a lead after the included credits, 1,000 leads a month is about $1,000 in credits on top of seats.
- You need verified phone numbers on every row. HubSpot publishes no coverage or verification rates for the agent's sourcing.
- You are on HubSpot's free tools. The agent needs a paid edition and credits.
Which AI agents are best for sales prospecting?
For a HubSpot team, the shortlist is HubSpot's own agent plus tools that write back to HubSpot. Prices below are from each vendor's pricing page, read October 3, 2026.
| Tool | What the AI does | Where contacts come from | HubSpot | Starting price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HubSpot prospecting agent | Watches signals, picks contacts, drafts or sends email | HubSpot sourcing, your CRM, or one connected provider | Native | $1 per lead in HubSpot Credits, on a paid edition | HubSpot teams with inbound and engagement data |
| Apollo.io | AI research, lead scoring, agents on Professional, sequences | Apollo's database (240M contacts, per Apollo) | CRM integrations from Basic | $49 a seat a month, billed annually | Small teams that want data and sequences on one seat |
| Clay | Claygent web research, multi-provider waterfalls, a sequencer | 150+ providers in Clay's marketplace | CRM sync from Growth | Launch $167 a month; Growth $446 a month, billed monthly | RevOps teams that build their own research flows |
| HubSpot sequences, no agent | Reps write; Breeze Assistant can draft intros | Your CRM | Native | Sales Hub Professional, from $90 a seat a month | Teams that want reps writing every email |
Apollo.io. Apollo's Free plan includes 900 credits per seat a year. Basic is $49 a seat a month on annual billing with 30,000 credits per seat a year, unlimited sequences and CRM integrations. Professional is $79 with 48,000 credits and adds agents and AI lead scoring. Apollo is also one of the four sources HubSpot's agent can connect, so some teams run both.
Clay. Clay's Free plan includes Claygent, Clay's AI web-research agent, and multi-provider waterfalls on up to 200 rows a table. Launch adds phone number enrichment, signals and Clay's sequencer. Automatic CRM sync and enrichment start on Growth.
HubSpot sequences without the agent. If reps want to write every email, sequences plus Breeze Assistant cover it without spending prospecting agent credits. You still need Professional seats for everyone who sends.
Where Cleanlist AI fits in a HubSpot stack
Cleanlist AI publishes this review, so its entry sits here, outside the table. Clu, Cleanlist AI's GTM agent, builds agents that find, enrich and sequence people for a HubSpot team. Inside HubSpot the plan gates matter:
- Two-way HubSpot sync: Pro and Enterprise.
- Agents on a schedule (every Monday, every night): from Pro.
- Agents on a HubSpot trigger, such as a new contact being created: from Pro.
- Sequences from your reps' own inboxes, with call tasks: from Starter. LinkedIn steps: from Pro.
See how agents work, Sequences and the HubSpot integration. For inbound, the lead routing software comparison covers routing inside HubSpot. For the enrichment side alone, the HubSpot data enrichment guide covers the options.

Verdict
HubSpot's prospecting agent is the natural first try for a HubSpot team on Professional or Enterprise: it lives where the records are, eligible accounts get 14 free days, and $1 a lead is easy to model. It does its best work on accounts that already show engagement. For cold outbound at volume, or when every row needs a verified phone number, price the credits against a data tool that writes back to HubSpot. Teams that work from Claude or ChatGPT can also wire HubSpot in directly: the HubSpot MCP server review covers how. Cleanlist AI's plans are on the pricing page.
