Short answer

The sales prospecting tools worth shortlisting in 2026: Apollo.io if you want to find and email prospects from one seat (free plan, then $49 per user a month on annual billing). LinkedIn Sales Navigator to find the right people (Core is US$119.99 a month). Cleanlist to turn a list into verified emails and direct dials ($79 a month, you pay only for what it finds). ZoomInfo for enterprise data and intent (no published price, Vendr reports a $33,500 a year median). Clay if you want to build the workflow yourself ($185 a month on Launch). Seven more, plus the sequencers that send, below.

Prices on this page were re-read on October 1, 2026 where the vendor prints them on its own pricing page (LinkedIn, Cognism, UpLead). The rest carry the date of our last read from the B2B contact data pricing index, between August 22 and September 7, 2026. Cleanlist publishes this page and is one of the twelve tools on it. The order follows the path most teams take (find people, get their contact details, then reach them) and carries no score.

What are sales prospecting tools?

Sales prospecting tools are software that helps a sales team find potential buyers, get a working email address and phone number for each one, and start the conversation. They fall into four groups. Contact databases (Apollo.io, ZoomInfo, Cognism, UpLead) let you search people and export them. LinkedIn tools (Sales Navigator, LeadIQ, Kaspr) work on the profile you are looking at. Enrichment tools (Cleanlist, Clay) take a list and fill in verified emails and direct dials. Sequencers (Instantly, Outreach, Salesloft) send the emails and log the calls. Most small teams need one tool from the first three groups and one sequencer. A tool that claims to do all four usually does one of them well.

How do sales prospecting tools compare in 2026?

Sales prospecting tools in 2026 split on three things: where the data comes from, how you pay, and whether the tool sends. Apollo.io, ZoomInfo, Cognism and UpLead sell access to their own databases. Cleanlist and Clay query many providers per record. Apollo.io, Kaspr and Sales Navigator price per user. Cleanlist, Clay, Snov.io and UpLead price by credits. Four of the twelve publish no price at all.

The sticker price is the wrong number to compare. Divide the monthly bill by the contacts you can actually email or call. A bounced address is a contact you paid for and did not get.

The 12 sales prospecting tools, one by one

1. Apollo.io: best for finding and emailing from one seat

Apollo.io is a contact database with sequences, a dialer and native Salesforce and HubSpot sync built in. That makes it the default first tool for a team of one to five reps. The free plan is real, and Basic is $49 per user a month on annual billing or $65 monthly, with Professional at $79 and Organization at $119 (minimum 3 users). An email costs 1 credit and a phone number 8. Apollo.io draws on a single database, so the rows it cannot fill stay empty. In our own 100-lead test, Apollo.io returned a verified email for about 80% of leads and a phone number for about 45%. In a separate 1,000-lead test in March 2026, its email match rate was 78%. The Apollo alternatives page covers what teams move to when that gap starts to cost them.

2. LinkedIn Sales Navigator: best for finding the right people

LinkedIn Sales Navigator is where most B2B prospecting starts, because the job titles and tenure come from the people themselves. Core is US$119.99 a month or US$1,079.88 a year per license, and Advanced is US$159.99 a month or US$1,799.88 a year (LinkedIn, read October 1, 2026). It gives you boolean title search, saved-lead alerts and account lists. It does not give you an exportable work email or direct dial on any tier, so every Sales Navigator team pairs it with an enrichment tool. Our Sales Navigator review covers what you can and cannot export.

3. Cleanlist: best for verified emails and direct dials on the same row

Our product

Cleanlist

Best for: B2B teams under 300 people who want verified emails and direct dials from 25+ providers in one waterfall, paying only for results.

Cleanlist publishes this page. Accuracy figures are from our own benchmark, not a third-party test.

Cleanlist runs waterfall enrichment across 25+ data providers in sequence and stops at the first verified hit, at 1 credit per verified work email and 10 per direct dial. Search is free and unlimited, and a miss costs nothing. It returns 98% verified work email and 85% direct dial on the Cleanlist 500-Lead Enrichment Benchmark, which is our own test run on a 500-lead sample. Plans start at $79 a month with 2 seats included.

Plans

Free plan 30 credits a month. Starter $79, Pro $229, Scale $599 a month. 25% off on annual billing.

Trial

14 days on Scale, 250 credits, 3 seats.

Fits when
  • You need work email and direct dial on the same row, verified, not two exports you reconcile by hand
  • You want the finished list written straight into HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive or pushed to Outreach, Salesloft, Lemlist rather than downloaded as a CSV you re-upload
Pairs with
  • Your sequencer or inbox. Cleanlist prepares and syncs the list; it does not send the email
  • Your intent or signal vendor, if buying-stage scoring is part of your motion

Cleanlist does two jobs on this list. People Search is free and unlimited on every plan, so you can size a segment before spending anything. Enrichment then runs each person through 25+ data providers in sequence and stops at the first verified hit. You can also upload a CSV or sync from HubSpot, Salesforce or Pipedrive. In our 100-lead test, Cleanlist returned 98% verified email and 85% direct dial on the same leads where Apollo.io returned about 80% and 45%. Cleanlist has no built-in sequencer today, no intent data and no technographic filters, so it pairs with a sequencer and, if you need it, a signal vendor.

4. ZoomInfo: best for enterprise data and intent

ZoomInfo is the largest contact and company database on this list, with org charts, intent signals and website visitor identification on higher tiers. It publishes no price. Vendr's buyer guide reports a median of $33,500 a year across 1,571 recorded purchases, ranging from $7,200 to $156,000 (Vendr, February 2026). In our 1,000-lead test in March 2026, ZoomInfo's email match rate was 84%. ZoomInfo makes sense when the account list is enterprise and the budget is already approved. For a team of five it is usually more contract than it can use. The ZoomInfo alternatives page lists the usual moves down-market.

5. Cognism: best for European phone numbers

Cognism sells EU and UK contact data with human-verified mobile numbers it calls Diamond Data, and screens numbers against do-not-call lists. Its pricing page lists two Sales Prospecting packages, Standard and Pro, each with 5 seats included, and defines "1 credit = 1 revealed contact". It prints no dollar figure on either (Cognism, read October 1, 2026). Pick Cognism when your pipeline is European and your reps work the phone. If most of your accounts are in North America, its edge narrows. See the Cognism alternatives page if you are weighing it against US-first data.

6. Clay: best for teams that build their own workflow

Clay is a spreadsheet-style canvas that chains data providers, AI research columns and CRM writes into one workflow. Launch is $185 a month on monthly billing or $167 a month on annual, and Clay meters actions and data credits separately (clay.com, September 7, 2026). The free plan carries 500 actions and 100 data credits a month. Clay rewards a RevOps person who enjoys configuration. Coverage and cost both depend on which providers you chain and in what order, so two Clay accounts can return very different results on the same list. Our Clay pricing breakdown walks through what a real month costs.

7. Seamless.AI: best for real-time search from the browser

Seamless.AI searches and verifies contacts at the moment you look them up, from a Chrome extension and a web app. The free plan gives one user 50 credits, and its pricing page defines one credit as a phone number plus an email. Pro and Enterprise both say "Contact sales" with no figure (Seamless.AI, September 1, 2026). Reps who prospect one account at a time like the speed. Ask for a written per-credit price and the renewal terms before you sign, because neither is on the page.

8. RocketReach: best for bulk email lookup

RocketReach looks up emails by name, company or title through a web app, a bulk CSV upload and an API. Essentials is $329 a year (about $27.42 a month) and is email only, with 1,200 exports a year. Phone numbers start on Pro. RocketReach refunds a lookup when it finds and verifies nothing (rocketreach.co, September 1, 2026). It ships no sequencer. It suits a team that already has names and companies and needs addresses in bulk.

9. LeadIQ: best for capturing Sales Navigator leads into your CRM

LeadIQ reads the LinkedIn or Sales Navigator profile you are on and pushes the person, with email and phone, into Salesforce or your sequencer in one click. Pro is $200 a month for up to 5 users on a credit slider, with 25% off on annual billing, and the free plan is one user with 50 credits (leadiq.com, September 1, 2026). Credits work like Cleanlist's: 1 for an email, 10 for a phone number. LeadIQ is a capture tool, so it needs the Sales Navigator license next to it.

10. Kaspr: best for LinkedIn phone numbers in Europe

Kaspr shows emails and phone numbers on LinkedIn profiles, with its strongest coverage in France, Benelux and the DACH region. The free plan gives 15 email and 5 phone credits a month. Starter is $49 per user a month on annual billing or $65 monthly, with unlimited B2B email credits capped by an export limit of 12,000 a year (kaspr.io, September 1, 2026). Our Kaspr pricing guide breaks down every tier.

11. UpLead: best for small teams that want emails verified at export

UpLead is a contact database that verifies each email at the moment you export it. Essentials is $99 a month for 170 credits, or $74 a month on annual billing, and Plus is $199 a month for 400 credits with technographics. Buyer intent sits on the custom Professional plan. The free trial is 7 days and 5 credits (uplead.com, read October 1, 2026). One credit covers one contact, email and mobile together. Credit counts are low for the price, so UpLead fits a team that exports carefully.

12. Snov.io: best for a budget email-only stack

Snov.io finds emails, verifies them and runs drip campaigns from one shared credit pool. Starter is $39 a month for 1,000 credits, with 25% off on annual billing (snov.io, September 1, 2026). Snov.io returns no phone numbers on any plan. For a solo founder running email-only outbound on a tight budget, one tool and one bill is the appeal. Add a phone source the day you start calling.

Lusha and Hunter (supplier credits, unranked)

Disclosure first: Lusha and Hunter are providers inside the Cleanlist waterfall, so these are supplier credits. They are unranked, and Cleanlist is not scored against either anywhere on this page.

Lusha runs a contact database behind a Chrome extension built for quick lookups from a LinkedIn profile. Starter is $49.90 a month, or $37.45 a month billed annually (lusha.com/pricing, September 1, 2026). Hunter finds and verifies email addresses by domain and runs simple cold email campaigns. Its free plan has 50 credits a month and Starter is $49 a month for 2,000 credits, or $34 billed yearly (hunter.io/pricing, September 1, 2026).

I only need emails and phone numbers for outbound. What should I use instead of a full sales intelligence platform?

If you only need emails and phone numbers, skip the platform and buy contact data by the record. Cleanlist charges 1 credit per verified work email and 10 per direct dial, search is free, and a miss costs nothing, from $79 a month for 1,500 credits. Apollo.io gives you emails, phones and a sequencer on a free plan or $49 per user a month. Kaspr fits LinkedIn-first reps selling into Europe. RocketReach Essentials ($329 a year) covers email only. Intent data, org charts and conversation intelligence are what you pay for in a five-figure platform contract. If you will not use them this quarter, they are budget you can keep. When those signals do matter, our guide to sales intelligence platforms sorts the options by job.

Is there a tool that can automatically enrich my prospect list with phone numbers and emails?

Yes. Upload the list as a CSV, or connect your CRM, and an enrichment tool fills in the missing emails and phone numbers for every row. Cleanlist does this with a waterfall across 25+ providers and charges only for the contacts it finds: 1 credit per verified work email, 10 per direct dial, 11 for both. A 400-person list enriched with both fields is 4,400 credits, inside the Pro plan's 5,000 a month. Clay does the same job if you build the provider chain yourself. Apollo.io and UpLead enrich from their own databases. Whichever you pick, check whether the tool writes back to existing CRM records (two-way sync) or only creates new ones, because one-way pushes are how a CRM ends up with three copies of the same person.

Which AI prospecting tools return verified emails and phone numbers?

The legitimate AI prospecting tools turn a plain-English description of your buyer into search filters, then return contacts with verified emails and phone numbers. Apollo.io, ZoomInfo Copilot, Clay and Cleanlist all do this. Cleanlist's AI Search, Copilot and MCP server take plain English, and its public API takes structured filters. The AI layer changes the interface and leaves the records underneath the same, so judge each tool on its verified email and phone rate on a sample of your own list. Ask any vendor for a test on 100 of your real records. One that refuses has told you what you need to know. For tools that also send the emails, see our best AI SDR tools shortlist.

Which sales prospecting tool is best for my team?

The best sales prospecting tool depends on team size and channel. Here is who wins each segment.

  • Solo founder, email only: Snov.io ($39 a month) or Apollo.io's free plan. One tool, one bill.
  • Solo founder who also calls: Apollo.io for sending, plus Cleanlist's Free plan (30 credits a month) or Starter ($79) for direct dials on the accounts that matter.
  • 5 to 20 reps running outbound: Sales Navigator for finding people, Cleanlist for verified emails and direct dials, and a sequencer. Credit pricing starts to beat per-seat pricing here, because hiring a rep adds a seat and not a second data contract.
  • RevOps with a CRM to keep clean: Cleanlist for two-way sync into HubSpot, Salesforce or Pipedrive, or Clay if you want to build and own each step.
  • Selling into Europe by phone: Cognism, or Kaspr for a LinkedIn-first team on a smaller budget.
  • Enterprise accounts and intent-led selection: ZoomInfo, with an enrichment layer underneath for the rows it misses.
  • Reps who live in Sales Navigator: LeadIQ to capture, then enrich what it misses.

If a single database keeps missing rows, the waterfall enrichment tools guide compares the tools that query several providers per record.

How much do sales prospecting tools cost in 2026?

Sales prospecting tools cost from $0 to tens of thousands of dollars a year in 2026. Self-serve tools with published prices start at $39 a month (Snov.io), $49 per user (Apollo.io, Kaspr), $79 a month (Cleanlist) and $99 a month (UpLead). Sales Navigator Core is US$119.99 per license a month. ZoomInfo, Cognism and Seamless.AI publish no price, and Vendr puts ZoomInfo's median contract at $33,500 a year.

A 10-rep outbound stack priced from published figures: 10 Sales Navigator Core licenses at US$1,199.90 a month, Cleanlist Pro at $229 a month for 5,000 credits and 5 seats (5 more seats at $20 each), plus a sequencer. Only the enrichment line grows with the number of contacts you work. The seat lines grow with headcount.

What do I use to send once I have the list?

A sequencer sends the emails, schedules the follow-ups and logs replies. Instantly is the common self-serve pick for cold email, and its lead-credit plan starts at $47 a month (instantly.ai, September 1, 2026). Outreach and Salesloft are the enterprise engagement platforms. Neither publishes a price, and Vendr reports a $30,740 a year median for Salesloft across 704 purchases. Apollo.io and Snov.io have sequencing built in. Cleanlist has no built-in sequencer today. It pushes finished lists to Outreach, Salesloft and Lemlist.

What are the 5 P's of prospecting?

The 5 P's of prospecting is a sales-training mnemonic with no single standard version. One published version, from Tom Martin at Converse Digital, is Proximity, Preparation, Presence, Patience and Preference. Other lists swap in purpose, personalization and persistence. Treat it as a memory aid. The only P a software tool changes is preparation, the research a rep does before the first touch. That is where prospecting tools save hours: a verified email and direct dial on the row before the rep opens the account.

What is the 10-3-1 rule in sales?

The 10-3-1 rule is a rule of thumb: for every 10 prospects you reach, about 3 agree to a meeting and about 1 becomes a customer. It is a planning ratio with no study behind it, and your own numbers will differ by market and deal size. Use it backwards. If you need 5 new customers a quarter, plan for about 50 qualified prospects reached. A prospecting tool moves the first number. Bounced emails and wrong numbers mean you contact fewer of the 10 than you think you did.

Can I prospect a purchased B2B list?

You can, but the legal basis has to travel with the data. In the US, B2B cold email is allowed under CAN-SPAM if you identify yourself, use honest subject lines and honor opt-outs. In the EU and UK, B2B prospecting usually runs under legitimate interest, which asks you to document a relevance test, disclose your source and offer an opt-out on first contact. Most list sellers cannot show where each record came from, which is the weak point. A purchased file also decays from the day you buy it, so verify every address before you send. This is not legal advice, so confirm your basis with counsel.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best free sales prospecting tools?

Apollo.io's free plan is the most complete free prospecting tool, with search, emails and sequences on one seat. Kaspr gives 15 email and 5 phone credits a month. Clay's free plan carries 500 actions and 100 data credits. Cleanlist's Free plan is 30 credits a month with unlimited free search, and new workspaces start on a 14-day Scale trial with 250 credits and 3 seats. Free tiers are for testing a real segment. An active rep runs through any of them in the first week.

Do sales prospecting tools work without Sales Navigator?

Yes. Apollo.io, ZoomInfo, Cognism, RocketReach, UpLead and Cleanlist all search or enrich without a Sales Navigator seat. LeadIQ and Kaspr read the LinkedIn profile you are on, so they need LinkedIn in front of them. Skipping Sales Navigator saves about $10,800 a year for 10 reps on annual Core billing.

What is the difference between a prospecting tool and a data enrichment tool?

A prospecting tool helps you find new people to contact. A data enrichment tool takes people you already have and fills in missing fields such as email, phone, title and company size. Some tools do both. Cleanlist has free people search and paid enrichment in one place, and Apollo.io has search and enrichment from one database.

How do I build a prospect list?

Define the segment in fields a database holds (title, seniority, industry, headcount, location). Search for matching people. Enrich them with verified emails and phone numbers. Push the result to your CRM or sequencer. Only the enrichment step should cost money. Our guide on how to build a B2B lead list walks through each step.

Cleanlist's plans, credit costs and seat counts are on the pricing page. The full method behind our numbers is in the 500-lead enrichment benchmark, and the Apollo.io and ZoomInfo figures come from the 1,000-lead March 2026 test.
