The short version

Cognism is a B2B contact data platform with its strongest reputation in Europe, sold through a sales team on custom quotes. Its pricing page names two prospecting packages, Standard and Pro, each with 5 seats included, and prints no price. The best public benchmark is Vendr purchase data, which Salesmotion reported in June 2026 as a median contract of $36,000 a year. A credit reveals one contact, and a revealed contact stays free to reuse until that person changes jobs. Users rate it 4.7 out of 5 on Capterra, with praise for European coverage and mobile numbers. It fits mid-market and enterprise teams selling into EMEA who want compliance paperwork up front. It fits small teams that want a self-serve price less well. We make Cleanlist, a data enrichment tool, so read this as a vendor's review. Our own plans are on the pricing page.

This is a pricing, fit and user-evidence review. We did not run a list through Cognism for it, so there is no "our test" section and no accuracy score. Every Cognism fact below comes from Cognism's own pages, our September 2026 pricing index, a dated third-party report of Vendr purchase data or dated user reviews, and each one is linked where it is used.

What Cognism does

Cognism sells three products, according to its pricing page, read on October 1, 2026 (Cognism):

  • Sales prospecting. Search and list building with firmographic, technographic and signal-based filters, AI account research, and export or CSV enrichment. The Standard package covers "core prospecting workflows." Pro adds what Cognism calls "higher-quality, accurate mobile data," on-demand verification and buying intent.
  • CRM Enrichment. Automatic enrichment and maintenance of CRM records, as an add-on or on its own.
  • Data-as-a-Service. Cognism data delivered into your systems. Cognism says CRM Enrichment and Data-as-a-Service "are priced based on subscription structure, usage and delivery requirements." Both prospecting packages now list "MCP & API access," marked as new.

Its signals cover hiring, funding and M&A, and job changes, with intent data on Pro. The page says Cognism is "Trusted by 4000+ companies worldwide" and shows its own badges of 4.5 out of 5 on G2 and 4.7 on Capterra.

How Cognism prices without a price list

Cognism publishes no dollar figure. Its FAQ says "Cognism pricing is tailored based on the product you need, your team setup and how you plan to use the platform," and both prospecting packages lead to a sales conversation. Our September 2026 pricing index records the same: no purchasable price, 5 seats included on Standard and Pro, and no free plan or trial on offer.

The best public benchmark is Vendr purchase data. Salesmotion reported in June 2026 a median Cognism contract of $36,000 a year across 108 purchases, ranging from $18,350 to $93,886 (Salesmotion). Vendr's own Cognism page was not available when we checked on October 1, 2026, so the figure is Salesmotion's report of Vendr data. Cognism itself publishes no number. Our Cognism pricing guide breaks down the packages and contract terms.

What the page does publish is the credit model, and it is buyer-friendly:

  • "1 credit = 1 revealed contact." Credits are spent to reveal, enrich or export a contact.
  • Reuse is free. "No charge for viewing previously revealed contacts," and "A credit is only used again if that contact changes jobs."
  • One pool. The same credits work across the prospecting platform, Enrich and the API "without extra cost."
  • Per-seat allocations. "Each seat includes an allocation of credits as part of the subscription," and more can be bought at any point.
  • Enrichment that maintains itself. On CRM Enrichment, Cognism says "Enrich a contact once, and we keep it up to date," with credits used again "only when key details change, like a job move."

The practical reading: with 5 seats included, the entry point is a team contract, and the allocation of credits per seat decides how far it goes. Ask for the credits per seat, the price of extra credits and the renewal terms in writing before you sign.

What Cognism says about compliance

Compliance is central to how Cognism sells, and its compliance page is specific (Cognism, read October 1, 2026):

  • Certifications. ISO 27001 and ISO 27701, SOC 2 Type II, and membership of the Data and Marketing Association.
  • GDPR basis. Cognism says it processes data "under the lawful basis of legitimate interest, as allowed under Section 6.1(f) GDPR," and that it notifies business contacts of their inclusion "within GDPR timeframes."
  • Do Not Call screening. It says it screens phone numbers against Do Not Call registries in the UK (TPS and CTPS), the US, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Sweden and Belgium.

Those are Cognism's own statements, and for European buyers they shorten procurement. Your own legal team still decides whether your use of the data is lawful.

What users say about Cognism

Users rate Cognism highly. Capterra shows 4.7 out of 5 from 263 reviews, with 4.8 for ease of use and 4.6 for customer service (Capterra). The praise is about data quality and Europe:

"The coverage of contact details and direct-dial numbers is outstanding, especially for European markets" (Director of technology, international trade, 5 stars, June 16, 2026)

"The quality and accuracy of the data is what stands out most for me" (Sales operations, IT services, 5 stars, April 22, 2026)

The criticisms, even inside positive reviews, are about credits, CRM sync and coverage outside core markets:

"credits can run out quickly if you are doing extensive list enrichment" (Director of technology, international trade, 5 stars, June 16, 2026)

"Not all the information cognism has can be pulled through to our CRM, Salesforce" (SDR, IT services, 5 stars, October 14, 2025)

"The depth of contact coverage in certain non-English-speaking markets outside core regions was limited" (BDR, financial services, 5 stars, July 4, 2025)

Trustpilot is split. It shows 2.8 out of 5 from 393 reviews, 53% five stars and 35% one star (Trustpilot). The five-star reviews read like Capterra's: "Honestly, the simplicity is what stands out most. It's easy to pick up and use right away" (5 stars, July 24, 2026), and "Information could perhaps be more in date but is a reliable tool" (4 stars, July 7, 2026). Several recent one-star reviews, among them ones dated June 1, August 6 and August 21, 2026, are from people who say they received sales calls on personal numbers that trace back to Cognism data, which is worth weighing next to the Do Not Call screening described above.

Where Cognism is strong

  • European coverage. Reviewers single out contact and direct-dial coverage in Europe, and the compliance program is built for European buyers.
  • Mobile numbers. Pro adds what Cognism calls higher-quality mobile data, plus on-demand verification, which is what phone-heavy teams pay for.
  • A fair credit model. One credit per contact, free reuse, and no second charge until the person changes jobs.
  • Compliance paperwork. ISO and SOC 2 certifications, a stated GDPR basis and DNC screening in a dozen countries shorten procurement.
  • Ease of use. 4.8 out of 5 for ease of use on Capterra.

Where Cognism falls short

  • No published price. You cannot budget before a sales call, and there is no self-serve trial. The reported $36,000 median is a team-sized annual commitment.
  • A team-sized entry point. Both prospecting packages include 5 seats, which suits a sales floor and oversizes a two-person team.
  • Credit limits at scale. A reviewer reports credits running out quickly on extensive list enrichment.
  • Coverage outside core regions. Reviewers report thinner data in some non-English-speaking markets.
  • CRM sync gaps. At least one reviewer found that not every field reaches Salesforce.

Is Cognism worth it?

For a sales team of five or more that sells into Europe, calls prospects and needs compliance documentation to pass procurement, Cognism is a serious option, and its reviews back that up. For a small team, the five-seat packages, the absence of a public price and a reported $36,000 median contract make it hard to justify before you have seen a quote.

Is Cognism GDPR compliant?

Cognism says its data collection and processing follow GDPR and CCPA, that it relies on legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f), that it notifies contacts within GDPR timeframes, and that it holds ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and SOC 2 Type II. Those are Cognism's statements. Compliance for your own campaigns depends on how you use the data, which is your team's call.

Does Cognism have a free trial?

Not a self-serve one. The pricing page leads to a demo and a sales conversation, and our September 2026 pricing index recorded no free plan or trial on offer.

How we reviewed Cognism

  • What this review is. A pricing, fit and user-evidence review. We did not run our own contacts through Cognism, and nothing on this page is a measured result of ours about Cognism.
  • What we read, and when. Cognism's pricing and compliance pages, its Capterra and Trustpilot pages and Salesmotion's Cognism pricing report (updated June 11, 2026), all on October 1, 2026, plus our pricing index record of September 1, 2026. Prices checked October 1, 2026.
  • What we could not read. G2 and Reddit blocked our reader when this was written, so the user section quotes Capterra and Trustpilot. Quotes are copied exactly, with the reviewer's role and date and without names.
  • Our own figure. Cleanlist's 98% verified work email and 85% direct dial is our own benchmark on our own 500-lead sample. It is not a test of Cognism.

Verdict: who should buy Cognism, and who should not

Buy it if you run a sales team of five or more, sell into the UK and Europe, depend on mobile numbers, and need ISO, SOC 2 and GDPR documentation for procurement. Get the credits per seat and the renewal terms in writing.

Skip it if you are a small team that wants to see a price and start today, or if most of your market sits outside Cognism's core regions. The five-seat packages and the sales-led process are built for larger buyers. Our sales intelligence platforms comparison covers the wider field.
